The biggest problem with the game is the reliance on previous versions of the game engine EXE files. These do not work in the same places now, and so add-on managers have to readjust to the new structure if they are to work. Luckily, there is a simple way of getting round this, and that is to download the manual (usually available here), look up the locations of all the old files, then search the Internet for a copy of the missing files. The most common locations are on the fan sites, but you can often find a replacement at the Microsoft website (as with all of MS's titles - it's MS Word!). Others can often be found on Free Format Downloads. Unzip the included files in your chosen folder, and the missing DLL or executable(s) will be found. If you install the game, it will most likely detect the change in the structure, and you won't need to worry about that in future.
Despite this, CM 00/01 is a great game. As my first major move, I opted to bring in the brightest young Spanish talent I could find, hoping that some of them wouldn't fall off the edge of the cliff. A few years later, I managed to bring in some other bright sweeties and one or two more competent stable hands, and promoted them up the divisions, only to find that our wages budget wasn't quite high enough to keep all the players happy. The game then had some more back-filling, and there we were, still running with an average of 4th in the League. In time, they got right into mid table, and then found themselves challenging for a place in the Play-Offs. A draw against Hereford and a further defeat to Doncaster sent us down the second division. 7211a4ac4a
