I was thinking about the impacts of climate change when I was thinking about this theme of hope, too. I am a new teacher at Sion here in America, and I am teaching a class on "Revolutionary Voices in Nonfiction" in which we are focusing on using our writing to call for action and awareness of environmental conservation. A concern I have with teaching this subject is that I fear my students will be anxious and alarmed by climate change. Of course, the thing is, I *do* want them to be alarmed and awakened by environmental concerns, but I also want them to carry a hope that the world *can* be a better place with dialogue, education, and action. Last week my students and I read these words by Jane Goodall: ""I do have reasons for hope: our clever brains, the resilience of nature, the indomitable human spirit, and above all, the commitment of young people when they're empowered to take action."
